Basically, I purchased a domain name from namecheap.com then registered to host it on hostgator.com. It had me enter the domain that I owned and the registration went through fine. I installed WordPress to the domain through Host Gator’s interface but now it says that page doesn’t exist. Do I have to register the domain through the company that I host it at? Or did I just do something wrong?
@nosmirc flen – Host Gator gave me two name servers. Do I have to transfer the DNS to both or just one? And after doing it, will it take some time for the site to become active?
Chosen Answer:
You surely can do that. Just point your domains nameserver to hostgator’s name server (can be retrieve by asking to their customer support)
Or
you can host your site in fully managed wordpress hosting companies they are bit costly but quality comes with cost. i have given you the first of kind managed wordpress hosting company link for a reference.

I may be wrong, but I’m fairly sure you can separate hosting and DNS. Perhaps you just need to wait a few hours for the changes to take effect?
You have to point the domain name to hostgator nameservers. The nameservers are in the activation email sent to you when you got the hosting account.
YOu’ll do this thru namecheap admin.
